1. About this policy
PoliceTax (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a trading name of Accountants Plus Pty Ltd, part of the Accountants Plus Group of Companies. This policy explains how we handle personal information collected through policetax.com.au, our landing pages, online forms, booking pages and when you deal with us by phone or email.
We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. As a registered tax agent, we also follow the confidentiality requirements of the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 (Cth).
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:
- your name, email address, phone number and postal address;
- your occupation, employer or industry, so we can tailor our tax advice;
- appointment and booking details;
- information needed to prepare and lodge your tax return, such as income, deductions, receipts, bank details for refunds and your tax file number (TFN);
- anything else you choose to tell us in a form, email, phone call or meeting.
Please do not send your TFN, identity documents or passwords through an ordinary contact form or email. We will give you a secure way to provide them.
Information collected automatically
When you visit our website, our tools and our service providers automatically collect technical information. This includes your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the page that referred you, the date and time of your visit, and actions such as submitting a form or booking an appointment. Much of this is collected using cookies and similar technologies, described below.
3. Cookies, analytics and advertising
Cookies are small files stored in your browser. Tags and pixels are small pieces of code on our pages that send information to the company that provides them. We use the following tools:
Google Analytics (Google tag)
We use the Google tag (gtag.js) to run Google Analytics. It tells us how visitors find and use our website, for example how many people visit a page, how long they stay, what device they use and their approximate location (based on IP address). We use this to improve our website and services. Google Analytics sets cookies such as _ga and _ga_*.
Google Ads conversion tracking and remarketing
When we advertise on Google, we use the Google tag to find out whether someone who clicked one of our ads went on to make an enquiry or book an appointment. We may also use remarketing, which lets Google show our ads to people who have previously visited our website, on Google Search, YouTube and partner websites. These features use cookies such as _gcl_au, and cookies set on Google’s own domains. We may use Google Tag Manager to manage these tags. Tag Manager itself does not collect personal information.
Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram)
We use the Meta Pixel on our website. It tells Meta Platforms when you view our pages and when you take certain actions, such as submitting an enquiry, downloading a checklist (a “Lead” event) or booking an appointment (a “Schedule” event). We use this to:
- measure how well our Facebook and Instagram ads work;
- show our ads to people who have visited our website (custom audiences); and
- reach new people who are similar to our visitors (lookalike audiences).
The Meta Pixel sets a cookie called _fbp and may read Meta’s own cookies. If you are logged in to Facebook or Instagram, Meta may link your visit to your account. We only receive aggregated reports from Meta. We cannot see who you are from the pixel.
What we do not send
We do not send your name, email address, phone number, TFN, financial details or the contents of forms you fill in to Google or Meta. Our tags send page and event information only.
